Featured Project: NHS Apprenticeship Event

We’ve posted here on the blog before on the work we did last year for the NHS Apprenticeship team developing a new brand and set of materials for the team, so we were delighted to be asked back to design a number of items for the recent Apprenticeship Celebration Event that took place in Northampton a week or two back.

The project was a really interesting challenge and gave us the opportunity to work across a range of different areas.

The first area was the printed material required for the night. We worked up a range of tickets, fliers and the awards brochure itself making use of some beautiful card stocks and effective use of Spot UV finishing to give the finished products a real lift. Little flourishes like Spot UV – as well as other options like embossing or foiling – can provide stunning little details to pieces of work like this and we were really pleased with how this turned out.

In addition, we also provided a range of branded merchandise for the event including their awards – and even designed the certificates for awards finalists and a backdrop to photograph themselves against!

Its always fun watching a brand like this come to life across a range of mediums and by the event we were really happy with how it all came together.

Workshop Announced: Developing Engaging Content Strategies

We are super excited to announce that we are going to be holding another free marketing workshop for businesses across the Nene Valley.

We have run a couple of these sessions now with the team at East Northamptonshire Council and the Nene Valley project and they are always a really interesting mix of businesses from across the region.

Last time, we spent the morning in Thrapston learning about a whole world of new tools, apps and tricks to help businesses begin to generate more interesting and nicer looking content for their social media feeds (you can find a blog on the session over here). This time out, we are going to take that learning one step to further to begin thinking about how we can tie all of our online activity together in a more concerted, strategic way.

As usual, we aim to deliver these sessions in an informative, friendly way and send our businesses home at the end with a range of takeaways and ideas to get stuck into in their own businesses right away.

The session is taking place in Thrapston on November 23rd at the Council Chambers at East Northamptonshire Council from 10am and is completely free for businesses in the Nene Valley region.

Featured Project: NHS Apprenticeships

We are very pleased to share with you the first glimpses of the work we’ve been undertaking recently for the NHS here in Northamptonshire. The team at the NHS , first approached us at the end of 2016 with a variety of design and print requirements to deliver a range of marketing collateral to support their campaign to recruit local apprentices.

After an initial meeting with the team it became clear there were a number of key ‘tent poles’ that we had to hang our designs onto.

  • The team were keen to utilise a visualisation such as a mind map to try and demonstrate the breadth of opportunities available within the NHS and we all agreed that a mind map was a great way to bring that to life in a simple, easy to digest manner.
  • We had to come up with something impactful and bold – that grabbed attention at events like jobs fairs where employers are fighting for attention in a sea of marketing material.
  • We needed to create a brand that aligned neatly with the nationwide “Step into the NHS” campaign whilst retaining a uniquely “Northamptonshire feel”.

We have shared here the results of this work and we’re really excited with how its all turned out so far. To bring the mind map to life without having add a huge amount of text we utilised a series of icons to represent the various job types and responsibilities available to people within the NHS.

Moving forward these icons will be a great device to help translate the branding into specific pieces of marketing materials or online assets.

We will share more of this project as pieces of work continue to come back from the printers – once this phase of the project is complete, the next task is for us to adapt and update the materials to an internal audience who are already employed within the NHS.

A Week in the Life…

One of the things we love most about running a small studio, is the sheer variety of work we get to throw ourselves into on a weekly basis. While at times it can get stressful moving from completely different disciplines at speed (and thats without counting all of the new things like accounting and admin that is all a new world too!) it helps to stay inspired and motivated and quite often, ideas that spark in one project will inspire something on another part of our to-do list. 

One of the things that helps to keep our to-do list quite so varied is the scale and range of our customers. Here at SVC, we look after the creative and digital requirements of businesses from local councils and training providers, to multinational companies and small local startups. 

These will all obviously have their own distinct range of requirements – some companies approach us with a very distinct requirement in mind – “I need a new website” for example – while others outsource all of their marketing and creative work to us on a monthly retainer. We try and keep our solutions as flexible as possible to ensure our customers are always getting the most of amount of ‘bang for their buck’ whilst offering cost effective options. 

This approach means that on a weekly basis we can be doing anything from writing and delivering social media content, designing and building website, managing the printing and production of marketing materials and collateral and even bespoke requirements such as training or delivering workshops. 

This variety helps us to grow as a business and keep our fingers on the last creative and digital developments for the benefit of our customers.

Featured Project: SVT Group

From a designers point of view there are very few things that are as exciting as the endless possibilities afforded by a blank canvas. While it can occasionally be quite daunting – we were recently given exactly this kind of project when we were tasked with a top to bottom rebrand of the SVT Group.

The SVT Group is a group of companies based in Northampton that offer a range of manufacturing and engineering solutions across the specialist cleaning sector. Some of their companies including SpaceVac and The Gutter Devil who we also count as clients as you might have noticed elsewhere on this website.

The requirements for the rebrand were a complete top to bottom rebrand including;

  • The design of a new uniform for staff
  • Designing new vehicle liveries
  • Development of new website and social media presence
  • Design of new printed collateral and stationery

It was quite literally a top to bottom redress of the company and we quickly got to work on brainstorming ideas. The nucleus of the whole idea actually came about while exploring typefaces for the main company logo. The font we settled on was called Neoterique and a quick google search led to us finding that this word meant “A person who advocates new ideas” – which actually, given the companies focus on innovative solutions and continued investment in research and development made a lot of sense.

From there we took these concepts and married to them to the colour scheme the client had in mind to create a look and feel that felt modern, sleek and polished.

Where we think these designs will really come to life is in print where we can utilise specialist finishing options like Spot UV and silver foil blocking to really bring out some of these details and make their printed versions look beautiful.
